Passport Services

Question : How many passport Photos should I submit with my passport application?

Answer : Four identical photos must be submitted per passport application

Question : What should be the size of my photo?

Answer : Exactly 3 x 4 cm

Question : How recent should my photos be?

Answer : Your photos must have been taken within 6 months of submitting your application.

Question : When should I apply for a new Passport?

Answer :

  • If you have an expired BLUE or BURGUNDY Ethiopian Passport. (Your old passport will be returned to you along with your new passport)

Question : Why should my application get delayed?

Answer :

  • If the required document you provided is not completed or needs correction. For example, misspelled names, date of birth, name change, exact fee etc.

  • If further verification is needed

Question : Do you accept payment in cash or personal checks?

Answer :

  • No, we do not accept cash or personal check. All payments must be in money order or cashiers check or certified bank check made payable to embassy of Ethiopia.

Visa Sevices

Question : What types of Visas are available for people traveling to Ethiopia?

Answer : The visa types are Tourist, Business and Transit visas. The type of visa you need is determined by the purpose of your intended travel

Question : What type of visa should I apply for?

Answer :

  • If you are travelling for tourism, you should apply for Tourist Visa

  • If your trip is for business, you should apply for a Business visa accompanied with a business letter.

Question : Does the validity of my visa begin from the date of entry?

Answer : No. Your visa will be valid starting from the date of issue

Question : Can I use my valid visa which is on my expired passport?

Answer : Yes, you can use your valid visa which is on the expired passport along with a new valid passport

Question : How may photographs must I submit with my visa application?

Answer : One passport size photograph must be submitted per visa application (Copy of a photo is not acceptable)

Question : How recent must my photo be?

Answer : Your photo must have been taken within 6 months of submitting your application.
