In order to obtain an Ethiopian Origin ID card, the applicant
must complete an application form and follow the instructions below. Please
note that all applicants are required to pick up the ID cards in person at
the Embassy or Consulate General.

Ethiopian Origin ID cards are valid for five years. If the
Ethiopian Origin ID card is not renewed for more than a year after the date
of expiry, it will be considered as if it was willingly returned.

The applicant will then needs to complete the requirements
outlined below.

If an applicant wishes to add children under 18 to his/her ID
card, then he/she should present two copies of a legal document showing the
relationship (i.e. birth certificate)
Mailing Instruction

All applications
to be submitted by mail must be sent via an envelope with a
TRACKING NUMBER.
If you send any ordinary mail without tracking numbers it will not
be processed.

Track it online at the
respective mailing company's website to ensure it has been received
by the Embassy. Please do not call to find out if it has been
received.

You need not call our
embassy after you have traced the arrival of your mail.

Fill out and submit two copies of
Application forms for Ethiopian Origin ID with his/her name appearing both
in English and Amharic alphabets.

Two copies of valid passport from the country of naturalization.

Old Ethiopian passport with two copies of the first three
pages.

Payment of $100.00 in the form of money order or Cashiers
Check, Certified bank check payable to the Embassy of Ethiopia.

Two copies of birth certificate or other testimonials as
requested by the consular officer.

Three passport-size recent color photographs

If all the necessary requirements are fulfilled, the service
could be provided on the next two or three business day
Requirement for Spouses
to obtain Ethiopian Origin ID card
Spouses of Foreign nationals of Ethiopian Origin who wishes
to apply for an Ethiopian Origin ID card should follow the steps outlined
below.

Fill out and submit two copies of
application form.

Two copies of valid passport from the country of naturalization.

Two copies of valid spouse's Ethiopian Origin ID Card.

Payment of $100 in money order, Cashiers
Check, Certified bank check payable to Embassy of Ethiopia.

Two copies of marriage certificate. The marriage certificate
should be authenticated through Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (If
the marriage took place in Ethiopia) or authenticated through US Department
of State (If the marriage took place in the US or other countries). The
marriage should be valid for at least two years prior to the date of the
application's submission

3 recent, colored photographs of size 3x4 cm with white
background and name of the applicant at the back of the photograph.

could be provided on the next two or three business day
Renewal of Ethiopian
Origin ID Card
A person who wishes to renew Ethiopian ID card should follow
the steps outlined below.
Present your existing Ethiopian Origin ID Card.

A
copy of Valid Passport.

Fill out the application form .Click

Payment of $40 in the form of money order or Cashiers
Check or Certified bank check payable to Embassy of Ethiopia.

A
self addressed return Envelope with sufficient prepaid Postage (for those
using mail service);.

If
all the necessary requirements are fulfilled, the service could be provided
on the same day.

If the applicant comes in person at the
Embassy, the Service will be given with in 30 minutes. If the document is
sent to the Embassy by mail, the service could be provided on the next
two or three business day.
Replacing a Lost or
Damaged ID Card
A person who wishes to obtain a replacement of lost or
damaged ID card should follow the steps outlined below.

Two copies of a Valid Passport

Two copies of a lost Ethiopian Origin ID Card (if
applicable).

Two copies of Birth Certificate or Previous Ethiopian
Passport.

Returning an Ethiopian
Origin ID Card
A person wishing to return an Ethiopian Origin ID card should
complete the following instructions:.

Fill out and submit the appropriate
form.

returned willingly.
