• Except Kenya and Djibouti nationals, visas are required for all visitors to Ethiopia. Visitors should obtain a visa from an Ethiopian Embassy or Consulates before departure.

• All visas will be valid from the date of issue.
   

Mailing Instruction

• All applications to be submitted by mail must be sent via an envelope with a TRACKING NUMBER. The application must also have a self-addressed prepaid FEDEX, UPS, or USPS EXPRESS MAIL return envelope.

• All applications with a return envelope MUST HAVE TRACKING NUMBERS. If you send any ordinary mail without tracking numbers it will not be processed and will be sent back to the sender unprocessed.

• Track it online at the respective mailing company's website to ensure it has been received by the Embassy. Please do not call to find out if it has been received.

• Please track your application online using a return mailing tracking number at the respective mailing company after two or three business days that we received your application to know that it has been sent back to you!

• You need not call our embassy after you have traced the arrival of your mail.

A. TOURIST VISA

• Current passport and the passport must be valid  for at least six months;

• One recent passport-size photograph.

• Copy of Green card or I-94 or Work Permit (Except US National)

• A completed visa application form (Click here to download the application form). (The form can be filled out online. The form should be printed and with necessary documents should be sent to the embassy or presented in person at the embassy with the proper payment in the form of a money order.)

• Service fees will be paid in money order or Cashiers Check or Certified bank check made payable to Embassy of Ethiopia; Click here to view a chart of the visa types and associated fees

• A self addressed return envelope which has a tracking number (FEDEX, UPS, or USPS EXPRESS MAIL) with it. (for those using mail service);

• If all the necessary requirements are fulfilled, the visa can be issued on the next two or three business day.

TOURIST VISA ON ARRIVAL

Tourist visa, can be issued for three months on arrival at Bole International Airport for nationals and residents of the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Democratic people's Republic of Korea (northern Korea), Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea (south Korea), the Russian Federation, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America.

NOTE: Eritreans and foreign nationals of Eritrean Origin shall not be issued a visa on Arrival. They must obtain an entry visa prior to their departure to Ethiopia.

B. Business VISA

All business visa applicants should attach a letter addressed to Ethiopian Embassy from his /her organization explaining the purpose of his/her travels.

US Officials or Diplomats traveling with Diplomatic, Official or Service Passport must bring an official letter from US State Department.

Officials or Diplomats of other countries traveling with Diplomatic, official or service Passport must bring official letter from appropriate Authorities or Embassies.
