Ambassador Girma Birru Presents Credentials to Governor General of Canada

The newly appointed Ethiopian Ambassador to Canada Ambassador-designate Girma Birru presented his credentials to His Excellency the Right Honorable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, to-day, at the official residence at the Citadelle of Québec.
According to a news release obtained from the Chancery of the Ethiopian embassy in Washington DC, Ambassador Girma Birru, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extra-ordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the US and non-resident Ambassador to Mexico underlined the existing prevalent ties between Ethiopia and Canada and pledged to further bolster the relations during his Ambassadorial ship. |

Ambassador Girma on the occasion re-iterated Ethiopia's continued desire to enhance the existing ties in the realm of trade and investment to a yet higher level. He further elucidated that Ethiopia is currently striving and is poised to overcome poverty and enlist itself in the ranks of the middle income nations in the not too distant future.
The Ethiopian people and leadership have made a solemn oath that the on-going Growth and Transformation Plan presently in full gear with a novice leadership after the untimely and sudden death of the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi will be attained with their active participation as is vividly observable in their heightened commitment and resolve, he underscored.
Ambassador Girma Birru further apprised the Governor General that Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has been sworn-in as the new premier of Ethiopia.
His Excellency the Right Honorable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada expressed his condolences on the untimely passing of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. He assured the Ethiopian Ambassador that Canada would reciprocate to see that the existing warm ties between Ethiopia and Canada are enhanced.
"Our relationship is strengthening, and will continue to do so throughout your time as ambassador" the Governor General re-iterated. In the course of the occasion he said that friendships need to be nurtured and cared for and that is why it is so important that you are here and that we celebrate your arrival, the Right Honorable emphasized.
