Ambassador Girma Birru Holds a Round-table Discussion with US Investors!!

Ambassador Girma Birru, held a round-table discussion with high-profile American investors at a meeting room of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C. yesterday.

The Special Envoy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the United States of America apprised the American business community about the propitious investment climate currently obtaining in Ethiopia.

In his elaborate and succinct briefing session, Ambassador Girma Birru underscored Ethiopia's impressive track record of economic growth of over 10% annually for several years uninterruptedly.

Ambassador Girma Birru informed the U.S. investors that Ethiopia has put in place attractive investment incentives by providing investor-friendly environment for their anticipated partnership in agriculture, manufacturing and diversified infrastructure sectors.

The Special envoy affirmed the commitment and readiness of the Ethiopian government to extend a package of incentives to encourage investors by availing the necessary tools and support mechanisms as pertains to the conducive and contemporary financial cushions and an appropriate policy environment.

Mr. Girma Birru made references to the current enabling investment regime that has unique economic attributes that encourage the engagement of foreign investors. In this regard he highlighted the Growth and Transformation plan which has presented vast opportunities for the involvement of investors in the energy, manufacturing and agricultural sectors with an attractive blend of incentives unparalleled elsewhere.

He also outlined the availability of huge trainable workforce and a strong macro economic climate and a healthy financial environment that abounds. Ambassador Girma assured the investors of the expansive domestic economy and the export market that is open for investors in the wake of the operation, production and distribution of their anticipated output.

Ambassador Girma informed the potential investors about Ethiopia's commitment by already putting in place the necessary investment framework and favorable policies towards attracting, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), enable the private sector to flourish and become a major catalyst for job creation and sustainable development. The high-caliber American investors actively participated in the ensuing conversation by raising their concerns and quipping pertinent questions.

During the interactive dialogue they showed an active interest in investment ventures in Ethiopia and the Ambassador gave them a detailed explanation and government support that is in place to encourage foreign investment of the motivational opportunities that abound. Ambassador Girma, thanked the audience for the candid and open dialogue and promised further engagement with the business community.

Mr. Scott Eisner, Executive Director of Africa Business Initiative from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on his part thanked the Ethiopian Special Envoy for his timely and topical appraisal of the prevailing investment climate in Ethiopia and pledged for the continuation of similar consultative forums in the future.
