A high level Ethiopian delegation headed by His Excellency Mr. Abdulaziz
Mohamed, V/ President of the Oromia Regional State of Ethiopia that has been
touring the US to apprise members of the Ethiopian Diaspora on topical
issues pertaining to development, investment and the on-going Election
process which is due to consummate by the end of the third week of May 2010
wrapped up its tour and returned home last week.
The four-man strong team made its maiden
briefing in the ballroom of the Embassy of Ethiopia in the capital to a
packed audience of Ethiopian Diaspora congregation domiciling in and around
the Washington Metropolitan Area, and then in Atlanta, and Seattle and
Minnesota cities.
The high-powered delegation brought to the
fore a succinct elaboration of the conducive socio- economic and political
environment that is investment- friendly obtaining in the country and the
impressive strides that Ethiopia has registered to-date in all fields
elevating its stature to a higher level as a nation to reckon with.
The delegation also dwelt at length on the
upcoming May 2010 national and regional election which is presently in full
gear with the active participation of all contending political parties,
other stake holders and the public at large with a determined stand of the
government to make the election fair, free, democratic and credible. In this
regard it was noted that election observers both local and foreign are
bracing themselves up towards that end.
The delegation also brought to the attention
of the attendees the measures that have been put in place to facilitate and
encourage Diaspora engagement in all ventures of national development,
investment and the transfer of skill, knowledge, technology, networking and
other enabling resources. The delegation gave ample opportunity for the
members of the Diaspora Ethiopians to raise questions which were adequately
answered.
Side by side, the delegation held exclusive
meetings with the members of the Diaspora focusing on the overall
development effort currently underway in Gambela, Somali and Oromia Regional
Administrations by responding to concerns raised by the attendees pertaining
to land ownership and use, investment opportunities, equitable economic
development and good governance prevailing in those regions.
