US tourists speak of reliable peace in Ethiopia

April 2, 2006, 22 hours, 45 minutes and 5 seconds ago.

Tourists from US said there was a total discrepancy between what they had heard about Ethiopia in US and the reliable peace they actually observed.

A group comprising eight American tourists visited Ethiopia's amazing wildlife and historical sites for nine days. The tourists pledged to publicize the serene and peaceful environment they witnessed during their stay in Ethiopia. They told the Ethiopian Television on Thursday that media outlets in the US do not broadcast the alluring tourist sites in Ethiopia except reports about drought and the assistance needed. The tourists thus said they would exert maximum effort to promote Ethiopia's wildlife resources, historical and natural attractions as they return home. Members of the group said they have taken pictures to prepare documentary that would help them publicize the country's tourist sites. The tourists said Ethiopia has a rich potential in the sector that would generate significant income. Ethiopia needs to work diligently to change the distorted image it has in the Western World and thereby make use of its wildlife and natural resources, the tourists said. They called for continued promotion work in order to build the good image of the country. The tourists said all citizens should work relentlessly to publicize tourist attractions, improve infrastructure facilities and service delivery. The Ethiopian Airlines on its part said in cooperation with relevant bodies it is deploying effort to facilitate influx of tourists. Marketing Department Head with the airlines, Mekonnon Abebe and Marketing Officer, Hailu Woldearegay and said the airlines is working to promote tourist attractions and invite tourists. The visit was organized by the Ethiopian Airlines and Adonai Travel Agent. Source: ENA
