Read the following carefully and fulfill all the requirements. Failure to fulfill the requirements may result in delaying the processing time or denial of the issuance of the passport.

NOTICE

The Embassy of Ethiopia in Washington DC is Currently issuing only a new Electronic Passport that requires mandatory finger print. Therefore; Starting from April 2010 all Ethiopians who wants to obtain a new, replacement (lost or Existing) passport or renewal of a passport should fulfill the requirments stated below.

The Embassy also advises all applicants to submit their application ATLEAST TWO MONTHS AHEAD of their planned travel date or prior to applying for any other services that requires a valid passport. Those using a postal service are advised to get a tracking number from the service provider.

N.B: Minors under age of 14 are exempted from giving finger print.

A. Requirments for Replacement of a Passport

• Four recent, color photographs of size 3 x 4 cm with white background and name of the applicant at the back of the photograph;

• TWO copies of any supporting documents showing Ethiopian citizenship (i.e. copy of Old passport, birth certificate, kebele ID, etc.);

• TWO copies of Green card (both sides). If you don't have a Green card, I-94 INS papers, or other document that shows present immigration status.

• Service fee of $60 if passport is lost or $50 if old passport can be presented.

• Service fee must be in money order or Cashiers Check or Certified bank check made payable to Embassy of Ethiopia;

• Finger print (Left and Right index) of the applicant.

• For fingerprint services applicants should go to the nearest police stations or to the companies authorized to take finger prints.

• A self addressed return envelope with sufficient prepaid postage (for those using mail service);

• TWO copies of the Application Form (Click here to download)

• NOTE: If you fail to submit the requiered number of copies, your request will not be processed and your documents will be mailed back to you.

B. Requirements for first time Appilicant.

First time appilicant means

1) Those Ethiopians who entered USA with their parents as a co-travelor by their parent's passport and can present evidence for that.
2) Those Ethiopians who never have had Ethiopian passport and can present evidence.

• Service fee of $50.00 in money order or Cashiers Check or Certified bank check made payable to Embassy of Ethiopia;

• Finger print(Left and Right index) of the appilicant.(those comming in person can give the finger print at the Embassy}
